Carthaginians and Romans – 2nd Fortnight in September
Named an International Tourist Attraction
The historic events that occurred in the city during the Second Punic War are recreated in many acts.
Events such as the “Foundation of Qart-Hadast” by the Carthaginian general Asdrúbal, “Hannibal’s departure to Italy” and the “Great Battle” for the conquest of the city by the Roman general Publius Cornelius Scipio “The African” in the year 209 a.c. are recalled,
Several theatrical acts which transport us to the “Wedding of General Hannibal and Princess Ibera Himilce”, the “Oracle to the Goddess Tania”, a “Great Roman Circus” with gladiator fights and chariot races, as well as several processions that go around the city are held for ten days.
The festival is made up of 25 Carthaginian Troops and 25 Roman Legions, which have their “Headquarters” in a large camp where the festival is held every night.
